The Farm has a rich history in producing Medlar fruit from the long-standing Medlar trees on site. Medlars are ornamental flowering trees with pretty blossom and a good autumn colour. The fruit is edible and is predominantly made in to ‘Medlar Cheese’ or ‘Medlar Jelly’ which is great eaten with a local mature cheddar.
The fruit is tart if eaten raw but makes an excellent accompaniment when transformed to cheese and Jelly. Left to soften the fruit mellows and is a traditional, if unusual, treat.
Given its history, The Farm incorporates the Medlar fruit in its emblem and is also proud to stock Medlar cheese and Jelly in the farm shop. It’s a must try!
